Back at the Beltony circle, as the sun was shining.

 

Bright and sunny. The forecast was for rain.

This large fly was making the most of the sunshine. I only ever see it around mid-day in full sun. Its name might give some clues - Mesembrina meridiana.

This was one of those rare days of high pressure where there's no wind. The air was full of strands of spider silk each carrying a flying spider. Where the strands land, the spiders congregate and make blanket webs over everything. Here you see them on a stone and some nettles.
