Approach to deforested area.

Dull with frequent heavy showers.

I've noticed that a few of my local Scots Pines have an odd leaf habit. Instead of a uniform covering of needles, these ones have regular gaps between clusters of needles. The effect from a distance makes the trees look 'crimped'. Only a few neighbouring trees have this habit.

This photograph shows the more usual, uniform, distribution of needles.

I've been looking for the mines of micromoths in the Pine needles. One or two needles on this specimen look like possibilities. (Another one is out of focus at the rear of the photograph.)
