Original Hedgerow, leg 1.

Dull with frequent heavy showers.

Primroses appear in two forms: Pin-eyed and Thrum-eyed. In the first case, the stigmas are above the anthers, in the second, they are below the anthers. This is supposedly to prevent self-fertilisation, since the tongue of a nectaring insect will have pollen in a different position in each case.

I took the shot of the Barren Strawberry - Potentilla sterilis - to show the forming seedhead and later noticed the grass fungus while processing the images. I'll try to get a better image tomorrow.

I usually show the fruiting cups of Cladonia pyxidata. This image also shows the lower thallus. Image about  3 cm. across.

Two shots of Rustyback Fern - Ceterach officinalis. The underside shot shows the derivation of the common name.

Another little wall composition. Herb Robert (red leaves), Mnium hornum (moss capsules), Smooth Sow Thistle (green rosette) and Daisy (shiny leaves, lower left). There are also glimpses of Ochrolechia parella (white lichen, left) and an unknown seedling to the bottom right.
