Fungal trip to Ards Forest. The combination of maritime air and ancient mixed woodland results in a rich fungal and lichen flora.

Enough for 3 days.....now: how to sort them....colour first? Yes!

Beautiful day with a tiny shower or two.

A couple of Mycenas. The first one is an interesting turquoise colour. Very small (5 mm. cap). On dead wood.

Hygrocybe miniata litters this area with luminous orange.

An interesting Russula with a lilac rim but a green centre. Spores subspherical. Cap 3 cm. Closest to Russula violacea.

An even more interesting specimen with purple rim and green umbo. Spores are eliptical and very warty. Birch was closeby, so maybe Russula versicolour.

The swollen stipe was hollow, but contained several white maggots.

A very delicate specimen. Cap is 3 cm. across.

Two Waxcaps. Hygrocybe virginea (left) and an unknown on the right.

A portrait of a white mycena with Russula mairei at the rear.

Two specimens of Clavulina cristata. A very delicate fungus.

One of three Cantharelles in this location. This is Craterellus cornucopioides - the Horn of Plenty.

An orange Myxomycete. Looks like Tubifera ferruginosa.

This is the first time I've found Hares Ear - Otidea onotica.
