Coniferous forestry at Beltany Circle.

 

Dull and cold.

The inside of a Spruce plantation. Notice anything? It's virtually sterile. We simply don't have the native fauna to take advantage of imported species. The interior of these plantations is like a vast desert.

As an aside, the above shot was taken at 100th second (my choice, as an experiment) and the original was totally black. With photoshop I was able to recover the detail you see. There might be some infrared influence, here.

You can just make out the two dots of light.

I came across this very dried specimen of Tricholomopsis rutilans - 'Rhubarb and Custard'. I had to stare at it for several seconds before it spoke to me.

At the slightly lighted fringe of the plantation I found a clump of Mnium hornum - our most common woodland floor moss.
