Original Hedgerow, leg 2.
Cold and dull with some late sun. |
Homalothecium sericium is a very common moss on wall tops. I very much liked the effect of the setting sun on the old red capsules. Capsules on setae about 1 cm. tall. The close-up of the capsule reveals the peristome (ring of teeth). Capsule about 3mm long. |
Just another little test of the lens. This shot of the Ivy berries was taken from about 1m. away. |
The setting sun is also good for getting back-lit shots of flowers - Gorse in this case. |
The old Grey Willow in the bog is covered in silvery catkins, now. |
I watched this mosquito as it flew to rest (roost?) on the old grass stem. |
A bit of a sad shot. This larva of the Buff Ermine moth has been run over or stood on or eaten. The head is missing. |
