Original Hedgerow, leg 1.

 

Warm with bright spells.

At this time of year I closely examine the fallen Hawthorn berries, because it's likely that one or two might turn out to be 7-spot ladybirds.

    

Notice the difference in spot sizes in the last two specimens.

Two mosses that grow at the base of trees on the verge: Hypnum cupressiforme (left) and Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus (right).

    

I noticed a few Sepsid flies eating pollen on the Lesser Celandine flowers. Much semaphoring was carried out by waving the spotted wingtips.

    

The yellow dots are pollen grains. Flies about 4 mm. long.
