1st April

Local disused quarry.

3 x Peacock. 3 x Small Tortoiseshell.

Warm and sunny.

My first butterflies of the year: a very tatty Peacock (left) and a Small Tortoiseshell (right). Both of these species overwinter as adults, so some wear and tear is expected.

Three primarily yellow mosses all on stone or very shallow soil/grit.

This third specimen keys to Dicranella heteromala, but I'm not confident.

A little batch of Cladonia lichens clinging to a rock.

Campylopus introflexus appears in many different environments.

Common Fumitory, showing the 'smoky' leaves that give it its common name.
