Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

1 x Small Tortoiseshell, 3 x Green-veined White.

Dull but warm.

A very interesting Bumblebee - Bombus bohemicus - the Gypsy Cuckoo Bumblebee. These lay their eggs in nests of Bombus lucorum. The status of this bee in Ireland is 'near threatened'.

Another milestone for the website. This is species number 1100.

The first worker bumblebee I've seen this year. It could be either B. lucorum or B. terrestris.

A pair of Lesser Dungflies. He is yellow, she is green.

Another early Bibio. This is the female of Bibio marci: her eyes are tiny, as is usual in Bibio and common in flies in general.

Allium triquetrum - 3-cornered Garlic is certainly spreading on verges around here.

Ash leaves have just opened. I was told of a local saying that predicts rainfall depending on which of Ash or Oak opens first:

Ash for a splash,

Oak for a soak.

So it looks like we're in for a 'splash'.
