Glashagh

Next>

Glashagh has a protected heath/bog leading to cliffs and inlets.

Orchids were plentiful on the wet heath: Heath Spotted Orchid (left) and Early Marsh Orchid ssp. coccinea (right).

Both species of Butterfly Orchid were present: Lesser Butterfly Orchid - Platanthera bifolia, (left) and Greater Butterfly Orchid - Platanthera chlorantha, (right).

A habit shot of Lesser Butterfly Orchid.

Both species of Arrow-grass were also present:

Marsh Arrow-grass - Triglochin palustris (left) and the much more robust Sea Arrow Grass - Triglochin maritima (right).

Two marsh plants - Black Bog Rush (left) and Marsh Pennywort (right).

Bog Pimpernel is unrelated to other Pimpernels. A very attractive and tiny plant growing through the grass.

This Small Elephant Hawk Moth feeds on Ladys Bedstraw, so is largely a coastal species in Ireland. Compare with the Elephant Hawk Moth from June 8.

Can anyone do Seagulls from underneath?

Lastly, from this wonderful day. Water Mint.
