Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

Bright, sunny and hot.

I keep examining every striped hoverfly in case I find something new and today I did. This is Anasimia lineata - a Bulrush-dependant species. I found the larva last year when searching for Bulrush Wainscot moths.

Lesser Stitchwort should be with us for the next few months.

Tutsan is putting on a show again. Great colour for most of the year, and a genuinely beneficial plant with antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

It's very difficult to identify these smaller hoverflies unless you can see the abdomen. This Meliscaeva auricollis generously dropped its right wing to assist the id.

This looks like Lochmaea caprea, but the colour is a richer orange than I usually see. Perhaps the sun/heat has brightened the colour.

A new leaf gall just beginning to form on a Willow leaf.

Finally for today, an unidentified Epinotia sp. micromoth. The angle of the wing has reflected the light and bleached the markings, so an id might be difficult. New to the site, anyway.
