28th June

Approach to Beltany circle.

Added identification for the micromoth on 25th June.

Brief dry periods in a wet and dull day.

People always liken Navelwort (left) to "tiny green Foxgloves" when describing them to me. And today I managed to get this unlikely juxtaposition (right).

Later: high deforested area.

A few shots showing the range in flower markings of the Common Spotted Orchid.

And a solitary 'Heath Spotted Orchid' amongst them. But this was the only one with its feet wet (in the bottom of a ditch). I remain to be convinced that these are separate species.

I recently read about some Bee Orchids that 'flipped between' two different variations in sequential years! More ammunition for my theory that some vars are simply caused by extremely local environmental considerations. There's a PHD waiting for someone out there.

A tiny (1 cm.) black and white spider.

A bit of colour from the heath: Seeds of Common Sorrel (left) and flowers of Rosebay Willowherb (right).
