Road through coniferous plantations.

I drive through this wooded area from time to time and the Angelica looked too good to ignore. Good decision!

Cloudy with prolonged showers.

A new Ladybird for the website: The Eyed Ladybird - Anatis ocellata. This is our largest Ladybird and is dependent on conifers.

A nice pairing of a fly (left) and an Ichneumonid (right). I cannot get the fly close to keying out.

I took the shot and then noticed the spiky hairs on the abdomen while cropping the image. Probably another Tachinid.

A shot of fresh Hogweed seeds, again showing the similarity to beetles.

A hoverfly that appears quite late in the season: Meliscaeva cinctella.

And a hoverfly - Xylota segnis - that puzzles me somewhat. It has powerful legs and tends to run quickly over leaves and (occasionally) flowerheads like a wasp. But it isn't a predator as an adult. Maybe a form of mimicry for protection.

The 'yellow sawfly' that I often see - but can't identify - approaching a Rhagonycha fulva Soldier Beetle. It got a quick shove shortly afterwards. On the right is a shot of the x-marked thorax, which is usually a good indicator of a sawfly.

This minute Ichneumonid photographed well.

A proper puzzle. One of the yellow sawflies, apparently dead. I can't figure out the black protuberances on its thorax. Are they parasites?

Back in the town centre, leaf galls on Lime caused by the gallfly Eriophyes tiliei.
