More from local estate.
Dull with a few heavy showers. |
I was alerted to 'large mushrooms' at the base of this huge and very old Horse Chestnut tree. I found some very decayed Dryads Saddle on the ground and perched on top of one of the brackets, I found this little frog. A 'frogsaddle', rather than a 'toadstool'.

Is it that time of year already? Horse Chestnuts, just about ready to drop. |
As a contrast, this is the trunk of a Sweet Chestnut. |
I rather liked the way the sun was shining through the leaves of this Horse Chestnut.
|
A very interesting gall on Oak leaves. The gall forms on the ribs of the leaves and is held by a thin paper-like joint. When the gall has developed, it is squirted out and lands on the ground. I have no idea which insect does this. Yet.
Research reveals the existence of something called "Oak Vein Pocket Gall". It isn't that, but at least it's a clue. |
Another shot from the darker part of the wood: ripe and unripe Hazelnuts. |
