23rd July

Next>

High deforested area.

Cloudy with frequent showers.

The seedheads of Common Catsear are less 'tidy' than those of the Dandelion.

Froghoppers have perhaps one of the most casual reproductive techniques.

The first (yes!) open Knapweed flowerhead in the area.

A new beetle for the site. It keys out to Phratora laticollis.

The mines on Angelica continue to develop. The initial corridor mine has been replaced by a blotch. Phytomyza angelicastri.

Another unidentified sawfly.

This ichneumonid looks very like Amblyteles armatorius, but the white spot on the thorax is missing. The UK checklist (there isn't an Irish checklist) shows only one Amblyteles sp., so this is clearly another case of convergent patterns between families.

Hmmm...on checking the Amblyteles image from July 18th, I see the abdominal and leg patterns are different, too, so perhaps not all that convergent.
