Original Hedgerow, leg 1.
Dull. |
This area is undergoing quite an overhaul at the moment, with ditches being cleared out in an attempt to deflect floodwater from the town centre. Still, it's a good time of year to be doing that kind of work. Sporing structures of two ferns: Lady Fern (left) and Hartstongue Fern (right).

A nice little group of Mycenas being sheltered by Hartstongue Fern. |
One of the most delicious fungi that I've eaten: The Miller - Clitopilus prunulus. Great care must be taken to separate this from Clitocybe dealbata which is deadly. In the field, the main feature is the surface of the cap, which is like very thin chamoix leather in The Miller. I can also detect an 'oily fish' smell. As usual, if you're unsure, then don't eat any wild fungi.

A youngish batch of Coprinus atramentarius. |
