Drumboe Woods.
Dry and bright, with occasional showers. |
One or two Hogweed plants have decided to flower again, so I thought I'd photograph one. But when I got closer I was astonished to find it was covered in hoverflies. I had assumed they were finished for the year. Do they normally nectar on something else at this time of year? |
This Leucozona glaucia hoverfly was very much in evidence, along with various Eristalis and one or two Ichneumons.
|
Yet another Ichneumon. This one was slowly searching over the Oak leaf.
|
This tiny (5mm.) fly - one of the Sepsidae - was wandering over the Oak leaf with a number of others. There was much wing-waving at each other. Those dots on the wing-tips are probably used for signalling. |
This Woodpigeon was feasting on the Elder berries. It was so busy gorging itself that it let me get quite close.
