High deforested area.

Dry but dull.

This rock - about 20 cm across was covered in Rhizocarpon petraeum lichens. It reminds me of some ancient heiroglyphs

There was a flurry of log-cutting recently. This log was cut no more than 3 months ago, and is already decorated with this orange fungus - a slime mould I presume.

I'm not quite sure why these trees were cut down. They were clearly not mature - this one is no more than 20 years old, judging by the rings. Maybe a change of planting plan.

The Rush Moth (mid-left) over-winters in its strange little white 'shell'. I saw many of these during last year, but there are very few visible at the moment. I suppose they must have been eaten by something.
