High forestry.

 

Dry and warm, but overcast.

Silverweed - Potentilla anserina - opened today. I'd normally expect 5 petals; this one has 6.

 

This Marsh Horsetail - Equisetum palustre - grows alongside the path as well as in the green strip in the middle.

 

That's two of our local orchids in flower, and two marsh plants in the forestry. Maybe this was a bog before it was planted. Northern Marsh Orchid - Dactyorhiza purpurella.

This ground beetle - Carabus granulatus - is a very fast runner. I wasn't panning quite fast enough to completely arrest its movement. If you squint at the head-end of the thorax, you can see that it's carrying two passengers - mites of some kind.
