“Highlake Monastery” was built in 1857 by the Franciscan Monks, but has been a private residence since 1970.
The 24 acre Estate lies on an elevated site in the mystical setting of Ireland’s West. The former Monastery is accessed via a long avenue and is surrounded by it’s own grounds, offering tranquillity, quietness, and peace.
A stunning feature is the private Chapel which is, unusual for the Franciscan’s, well decorated with painted Celtic designs on the walls. The Chapel holds a maximum of 60 people seated (in the nave), not counting the sanctuary.
To the rear of the building, and facing the formal Inner yard, stands the tower, housing two bells welcoming our guests. |
