Glenties is decribed as a fisherman's paradise. The well know Owenea river runs through the town and is renowned for its salmon and trout fishing. The surrounding hills are flecked with numerous lakes filled with trout, the best know being Loch Anna made famous by the Brian Friel play and film "Dancing at Lunaghsa".

The Hotel runs very popular golfing weekends in conjuction with the Narin and Portnoo Glof Club which boasts one of the finest 18 hole Golf Links in Ireland.

The beautiful sandy beaches of Narin, Rosbeg and Dooey are all within close proximity of the Hotel.

The Patrick MacGill Summer School is held in Glenties in the second week of August each year when the town honours it's Navvy Poet.

The Colourful Harvest Fair Festival is held on the second week of September and is a great time to visit the town as it celebrates this traditional fair in typical Donegal style.

For those appreciative of the very best taditional music. The Fiddlers Weekend is held on the first weekend of October, being substantially based within The Highlands Hotel itself.
