Violence
Against Women - an AI global campaign
Amnesty
International (AI) has launched a global campaign to stop violence against women.
In order to support the campaign, AI has
formed an Advisory Group, with the following mandate:
- to provide expertise on women's
rights and the issue of domestic violence
- to provide an expert assessment of
the current situation, i.e. the key issues and concerns
of the movement in relation to women's issues and in
relation to violence against women. In the process, to
identify the most pressing areas of concern and need for
change
- to inform and advise on key elements
of the AI Violence Against Women campaign themes. In the
process, to provide a constructive analysis and critique
of the general aims of the AI campaign and identify areas
where there may be gaps
- to identify and suggest
opportunities for campaigning actions which will best
deliver on the goals
- to help form the basis of Amnesty
International Irish Section's campaigning work on
Violence Against Women through being informed by
activists and policy makers working in the area and
through ongoing close collaboration at all phases of the
campaign.
