Guerilla Web Promotion and Marketing (v. 1.2)
Linking

The nuts and bolts of web presence is having multiple links pointing in your direction. It's important to get placed in all the major directories and search engines, yes (see my Search Engine Tactics, also available for free via the Internet Marketing Library), but you shouldn't stop here. In my experience, well placed links from other related publications have always generated more traffic than the engines and directories.

Most people will not simply give you a link just because you ask for it. If it's a directory who's business it is to list sites, then you might get one, but most sites simply offer a list of links as a side attraction. You will need to offer them a back-link. This implies that you will have to establish a link section as well.

Don't worry about losing people to your links. Surfers will come and go. You can't help that. If your content is attractive, they will stay and may just come back later. This link section will give you far more traffic than it takes away if you solicit as many mutual links as you can.

It may be wise to try to contact at least three sites a day asking to "swap links". If you do this (professionally and courteously), it won't be long before you have a vast number of links pointing to your site and a steady stream of hits coming from them.

Of course, it's always a good idea to submit your site to as many directories, search engines, cool sites, and free-for-all links as well.

To do this, I would recommend the "Global PromoBot". It's by far the superior tool for accomplishing this task.

Once again, see my "Search Engine Tactics" for more info on this topic. Available for free download at the "Internet Marketing Library".
