The area where green is located was used for boys football matches prior to building of green.

Construction of the new green commenced on 12th .June ,1995,following initial site surveying and marking out.

Site stripping was carried out in two stage;first the existing sod and some trees were removed all over the area of the green and piled on site, and then the topsoil was excavated to level and also piled on site for spreading elsewhere later.
Stripping and grading was done by a J.C.B. hired from P.Bonfil Plant hire.Drains were dug, pipes laid(4 inch main and 2 inch branch wavindrain),and backfilled with 40mm.round stone during week 5.
Following this , the site was layered with 40mm. Round stone,10mm. Round stone, and 2mm. Coarse sand as blinding. All ditch board pegs were in position for driving to level by 24th July.
On 24th July, the first load of sand/soil mix was delivered by Irish Turf Care LTD,all being delivered by 27th july. All ditchboards were levelled ,and all topsoil /sand mix spread by 28th july.Prior th this date, the main water supply pipe to the green was laid from the clubhouse basement, together with the surface water pipe from the silttrapto the surface water drain manhole adjoining the car park area.
Twelve steel scaffolding tubes were hired from Scaffhire Ltd..These were set level to act as screeding barsfor the sand/soil mix,and the entire surface trodden in and screeded level, section by section.

The next job to be tackled was theditch bank walls and water sprinklers, and the Foundation for perimiter path were next to be finished, together with sprinkler heads.

This stage was completed in time to lay the turf on 4th/5th october.

However water was not available until the 24th oct. when pump was connected to electical mains, and at this point the sprinklers were turned on for first time and adjusted to proper height and lenght

After sods were layed the perimiter path.itself was laid
.

An experienced greenkeeper{the late Mr Sean O Carroll}was employed for 2 weeks to undertake micro levelling of new turf. this was completed together with topdressing by 24th oct. Some further resodding was done by Mr pat Tyrell during week commencing 1st dec.,at which point the boundary fence was nearly completed .The turf was well established and growing well.
