Partial Phase 2008 Eclipse

Left: Photograph of the partial eclipse at Bray, Co Wicklow. 1st August 2008 at 08:56 UT. 20cm Dobsonian, 20mm wide angle eyepiece (Kellner Super). White light filter. Used the afocal method. Canon A 400 Power Shot.

Right: A sequence of pencil sketches of the eclipse from my garden. Some by eye (with filter) , some by PST (H-Alpha telescope), all rotated to give the same view. Difficult conditions, part cloud. 40mm H-Alpha Solar Telescope (PST 40) with a 8mm eyepiece (TVP). The times are given in Irish Summer Time (UT + 1 hr).

Partial Phase 2006 Eclipse from home

Eclipse (40K)
Deirdre Kelleghan was at home in Bray, Co.Wicklow. Canon A400 Power Shot Digital Camera hand held up to 10mm eyepiece of a 70mm refractor (Meade ETX). Solar filter used. 29 March 2006.

Observed from Jalon, Spain by John O'Neill. Some cloud present at dawn which obscured the First Contact, but the sun cleared nicely soon after and remained so for the rest of the Eclipse. 500mm focal-length Mirror "Lens" with Fujichrome 100. Kendrick Baader Solar Filter used. Left: Images combined into a montage. Centre: Perfect Symmetry at mid Eclipse.

Right: A superb atmospheric photo taken through partial cloud cover from Dublin. 450mm focal-length lens at 1/2000th second on Fujicolor 200. Because of cloud no filter used. Taken by Barry Pickup.
