Images by John O'Neill. On the Travelquest/S&T expedition 120km south of Tobruk, Libya. Imaged with a 60mm refractor operating at 390mm with a DSLR camera. The first image is a detail, while the last image is a montage.

Red prominences erupt from the eclipsed sun (left) and the classic solar minimum corona (centre) on 21st June 2001. Taken by John O'Neill with a 480mm focal-length 70mm refractor (Pronto) with Kodak Elite Chrome 200. Exposures 1/1000 sec and 1/15 sec respectively.

The 1999 Eclipse from Kamen Brag, Bulgaria

Red prominences circle the eclipsed sun on 11th August 1999 in this dramatic shot. Taken by Gerry Moloney with a 100mm aperture refractor (Borg) on an Equatorial Mount.

The 1998 Eclipse from the Caribbean

The Solar Corona on 26th February 1998 from the deck of the M.S. Statendam off the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean. Taken by John O'Neill with a 480mm focal-length 70mm Refractor (Pronto). Ektachrome 400 slide (1/15 sec.).


The 1994 Eclipse from Chile

The Solar Corona over the twin snow capped volcanoes Pomerape and Parinacota in the Chilean Andes on 3rd November 1994. Site at a height of about 4,000m. Two frames combined. Taken by Angela O'Connell.
