Our Policies
1. We reserve plants in the strict sequence received,
regardless of geographic area and planting time. To better insure that we can reserve the plants
you need, reserve your plants now, even if you need to add to your order later! And remember,
at the Cois Mara garden center, your credit card is never billed until your order is shipped!
2. We Ship at Proper Planting Time - When planting season arrives in your garden, your plants
are shipped, first come, first served. Based on decades of experience, Cois Mara garden center ships
based on these guidelines:
- Spring - Southern regions in Jan-Feb, just after nursery stock is dug and prepared. We move
northward as weather zones "open" until even the coldest region is opened by early May.
Because we don't ship until they will transplant
best in your garden, we suspend most orders to Galway, the West Coast,
and southern Munster by early May; the deep south by mid-May; Donegal,
the central and northern counties by May 31. Other than our May 31
cutoff, exact dates vary by weather. Garden accessories are shipped year
round.
- Autumn - An excellent time to transplant plant material of definite hardiness, when weather
and soil conditions are often better than early spring.
In general we begin shipping northern areas in September, then warm zones till December. We ship
to northernmost regions until conditions preclude planting; however, hardy bulbs can be planted
until a hard freeze.
Notable exceptions to fall shipping schedules: We ship fall-blooming bulbs till
mid-September; Bearded Iris August to mid-October; Clematis starting in October; Lilies starting
in mid-October (and remember, plant Lilies immediately upon receipt). If there's a chance of
the ground freezing, prepare and mulch your garden in advance.
