The Band performs at a number of regular functions/events every year. These include the St. Patrick's
Day parades in Mitchelstown and neighboring Ballyporeen, The Festival of the Galtees in Mitchelstown,
an annual "Remember Mitchelstown" commemoration, Christmas Carol Service , and on Christmas Eve a
Christmas Carol recital at various locations throughout the town. The band also plays at many other
engagements throughout the year when requested.
Outside of the summer holiday season, the Band meets for practice twice weekly. Various section
practices are held on week nights, with a full Band Practice every Sunday Morning from 11:30 to 13:30.
During the summer months (when weather permits) the Sunday Morning practice is changed to a Sunday
Morning Recital and is staged at various areas around the town.
The Band is a member of the Southern Region of The Irish Assosiation of Brass & Concert Bands and
partakes in many of the competitions organised by the association. Over the past few years Mitchelstown has
played host to the association's annual Quartet & Ensemble Competition.
The band is also a regular competitor in the South of Ireland Brass Band Championships held each year
in Clonakilty in conjunction with the Festival of West Cork. Indeed the Mitchelstown Band has only
missed competing in this competition once in the last 20 years !
Although many of the Band's Activities are of a competitive nature, the main focus of the Band is
on playing music for pleasure. The Band has an important educational role in developing the musical
appreciation and performance skills of its members, and as such is a valuable asset to Mitchelstown.
