St. Joseph's Secondary School was established by the Mercy Sisters from Trim in 1949. At that time, they occupied the house that is now known as Athboy Furniture Factory. In 1962 the school that we use today was built. It had to be extended may times since then to meet the demand of increasing student numbers. Over the last 51 years St. Joseph's has built up a fine reputation not only for the academic and sporting achievements of it's students, but also for it's services to the local community in terms of the fine sporting facilities it offers groups in the area. The overall aim of the school is to enable each student to obtain the kind of education which will help him/her achieve personal fulfilment in life, to be successful in his her chosen career, and to be a responsible and caring member of the community. Because the school has a relatively small number of students, staff members are enabled to know the students personally, to give special attention to their individual needs, and to maintain good disciplinary standards.
