Compile a short structured report demonstrating information gathering and report writing skills on a topic of your choice. Report may be based on your vocational area or on research done for another module. Gather your information from a variety of sources (books, Internet, newspapers, magazines etc.). Acknowledge your sources through references and bibliography. It should be approximately 500 words. Findings should be presented clearly in your own words and your conclusions should show evidence of critical thinking and analysis. Report should be well expressed and be free from minor grammatical and spelling errors. Number of marks: 10 (a) Evidence of using communications technology (CT), sending and receiving information both one-way (eg fax, answering machine, downloading information from the Internet) and two-way (eg email, mobile phone). (b) Awareness of Current Issues You must display awareness of current and relevant issues, such as discussion of the uses, advantages/disadvantages and impact of CT. This may be a short written/oral piece, and could be a topic for the report, oral presentation or discussion. For these 10 marks you need to demonstrate your use of a wide range of technology. You should write an account of where you have used communications technology (phone, fax, email, answering machines) in preparing your portfolio for this module and keep evidence where possible e.g. print-out of e-mails. SKILLS DEMONSTRATION Percentage of Total Marks 50%
Make a 5 to 10 minute oral
presentation on a topic of interest to you. (Ideally the
presentation should be based on your vocational area but
can draw on other aspects of this module).
One of the following must be carried
out with one or more people: Interview
/Meeting /Telephone /A question and answer session at the
end of the oral presentation
Participate in a group discussion or
meeting in order to demonstrate speaking and listening
skills including non-verbal communication.
Take and give a message displaying
ability to communicate with the message giver and ability
to summarise information and ability to clearly
pass on a message. Phone message recommended.
You must get some message across
without words by doing one of the following: Ø
Design an image with or without text (for example:
notice, poster, web page, brochure, greeting card, book
cover, storyboard, flags, map, diagram, photograph,
painting, sculpture) or Ø Make a non-verbal presentation such as mime or dance (record on video). Evidence of development of
ideas, with initial sketches, support studies,
planning, etc. should be included. Evidence of visual
communication may be incorporated into other skill
demonstrations as visual aids, or presented separately. CHECKLIST OF WORK Please
ensure you have evidence of each of these in your
portfolio 1.
