Spreadsheet Methods Briefs 2002-2003

Project:  Construct a Spreadsheet (50 marks)

Design and construct a spreadsheet that offers a solution to an identified problem.

 Your spreadsheet must contain:

Ø      At least 6 rows of data to include both character and numeric types

Ø      At least one main heading

Ø      Column/row headings

Ø      At least two different alignments

Ø      A range of cell formats (currency, percentage, decimal)

Ø      A simple IF statement

Design Specification Phase (20 marks)

    1.      Clearly identify your project aims and proposed solution, identifying a source of data

2.      Specify input data, processing required and output data

3.      Specify formats for all data (alignments, column widths, currency, percentage, decimal)

4.       Design a data capture form and screen layout

 Implementation Phase (20 marks)

 1.      Present evidence of a spreadsheet structure to include appropriate data, labels, formulae and functions. It must include a simple IF statement.

2.      Print out the completed spreadsheet showing data input and results

3.      Print out the completed spreadsheet showing formulae with row and column identifiers

4.      Print out the spreadsheet after a variable has been changed (recalculation feature demonstrated)

Modification Phase (10 marks)

 Suggest modifications or improvements to the original design
