Kilglass retains All-Ireland crown

THE KILGLASS Gaels quiz team of Eddie Conboy, Cian Diffley and Katie Nugent retained their All-Ireland Scór na nÓg crown on Saturday last when they were crowned champions once again in the Count John McCormack Hall of the Athlone Institute of Technology.

This was a great occasion for all true Gaels as it brought together the cream of young talent from the four provinces in what can only be described as a joyous celebration of the country’s distinct culture.

Through the medium of music, song, dance and knowledge, the 2,000 strong audience was treated to a fantastic evening of entertainment as groups and individuals represented club, county and province to vie for national honours and it was Roscommon that took the first of these honours with the Kilglass Gaels question time team winning their second All-Ireland in fine style.

Kilglass Gaels were pitted against Buffers Alley of Wexford, Cornafaen of Cavan and Munster representatives Beaufort from Kerry. Br. Sylvester from Offaly was quiz master. Kilglass dropped one question, their only one all year, to win with a score of 56.

In doing so they made Scór history by becoming the first club in Connacht to win back to back All-Ireland titles in the question time. So great was their achievement, that An Uachtaran Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Sean Kelly, gave the team special commendation in his closing speech.

Coiste Scór Roscomáin would like to congratulate the team and, in particular, their mentor Nuala Diffley for her hard work. In winning the All-Ireland they have not only brought tremendous pride of place to their own club but to the whole county.
