"The Rising Sun" in Mullinavat will certainly prove the place to be on the night of Saturday November 10^th, when Kilmacow Macra will celebrate the 10^th Anniversary of their foundation with a Dinner Dance in the popular South Kilkenny venue. For the past decade Kilmacow Macra has enjoyed unparalleled success, not only in purely Macra terms, but also as a valuable social and educational outlet for more than 120 young people from Kilmacow and the surrounding areas.

It’s a common misconception amongst people outside Macra, that the organisation is the preserve of young male farmers who sit in parish halls discussing tractors and the price of cattle. Nothing in fact could be further from the truth. Take our own club for instance. Women have always played a strong role in committee positions with distinction. Over the years in fact, more than half our membership has been female.

Kilmacow Macra has always been a hugely successful enterprise. The club has represented Kilkenny on a national level countless times, in debating, public speaking, various sports, talent shows, quiz competitions, and much more else. We’ve been blessed perhaps with always having active and vigorous members who were both talented and interested in taking part in the various competitions.

It’s as a social and educational outlet however, that the club has been most valuable. The past decade has seen club members enjoy many weekends away, trips abroad, wild nights out (and in), and generally have a fabulous time.

Kilmacow Macra has always had a strong community involvement. The club has organised charity events, annually attends the S.O.S nights in Kilkenny, been involved in tree planting, organised Parish shows, and our annual Sponsored Cycle for Rosedale is always a hugh success.

All in all, the past decade has been a hugh success that has seen Kilmacow Macra go from strength to strength. We can only hope that the next ten years will be as good and enjoyable, and look forward to enjoying a decade of success in "The Rising Sun" on Saturday November 10^th.
