Place Of Cultural Interest:
Adelaide Memorial Church Myshall |
To find the church in the village Myshall you must go out the Bunclody road. It is on the right about 500 yards up the road. It is on the hillside and can been seen from all angles of the village. Large trees surround it. The shades of the trees bring out the full colour of the limestone. The trees shelter and give privacy to the church. The pond in Tobar Bhride reflects the church’s image. The Adelaide Memorial Church of Christ the Redeemer was consecrated on the 29th Sept. 1913 by Rt. Rev. Dr Bernard Bishop of Ossory, Ferns and Leiglin. A great number of people attended the ceremonies. A choir came from St. Canice’s Cathedral Kilkenny. The architecture of the Adelaide Memorial Church Myshall is Gothic. The design is said to be based on that of Salisbury Cathedral England. Artistic features of the Adelaide Memorial Church are: Stained Glass, Iron Work, Mural, Wood Carving, Mosaics and the Mother of Pearl is on the east wall and on the Baptistery Font. This building is most definitely an architectural
jewel. Every year our school visits this famous church.
