The School League

In our school we play a hurling league every year. The rules of our league are a bit different then county hurling. In the league 2nd,3,rd 4th, 5th and 6th play.  There are  about four or five on each team.

The rules of the league are the two captains go in goal for the first half. The match lasts 10 mins. a half. When the captains come out they can hit the ball on their good hand in their own half. They can not hit the ball on their good hand in their opponents half. They can hit with their good hand on the ground. These rules allow the younger players to have a chance

In the league there are five teams. Each team play each other once. At the end the top three go through. The bottom two play each other in a play off. The winner of the match would be the fourth in the semi-Final. In the semi-final the top two teams are separated. The winners of the semi-finals go through to the final. In the Final this year Edward Dunphy’s team played my team

The Final

The Final was probably the best game in the league. Both teams badly wanted to win. At the start pictures were taken of  both teams. We also had Amhrán Na bFhiann sung by Damien Walsh. He was better then Ronan Tynan. The match was exciting the whole way through. The match was very high scoring.

At the start Mairead Power put two goals behind Edward and a few points. After a while we were a good bit ahead but then Edward’s team dug deep and fought back. At half time there was only four points in it. The second the ball was thrown in the clash of the giants began.

In the second half there was blocking, hooking and everything else you would see in an All-Ireland except for fighting. After a little while Edward got the ball and scored a goal. There was only one point in it. My team needed a goal. Denise Kenneally got the ball and took a shot but Tommy Hearne pulled off a great save. Then I ran up and pulled on it. I scored a goal. In the end we won by four points. I felt very happy to win the league in my last year of school.
