    Air Pressure 4

Experiment: To take another look at what air pressure can do.

    Materials:

    You will need:

A plastic cup or wine glass
    A playing card
    A 2c, 5c or 10c coin

    Method:

    What you have to do:

    1) Place the card on top of the cup or glass leaving a gap of about 2 cm.

    2) Carefully place the coin on the edge of the card.

    3) Now try to blow the coin off the card and into the glass/cup.

    4) You will have a better chance of succeeding if you blow directly through the gap between the card and glass/cup - see diagram (a picture will follow).

Result: The card flips up and the coin falls into the glass/cup.

Conclusion: The pressure of the air entering the glass/cup causes the card to be pushed up and the coin to fall.
