Wonderful Weather - Experiment 6 1. Cloud in a bottle | 2. Tornado in a Bottle | 3 Air Pressure in a Jar | 4. Air Pressure on a glass | 5. Make a barometer | 6. Make a Thermometer Experiment: To make a thermometer
Materials:
You will need: 1 small bottle (about 500mls)
What you have to do:
1) Fill your bottle half or quarter full with water.
2) Add only 2 or 3 drops of food colouring to our water so you can see
it clearly during the experiment.
3) Using your scissors, poke a hole in the lid of the bottle - big
enough to fit your straw.
4) To make sure that your bottle is airtight, insulate it using bluetack.
Stick it around the straw at the top and stick it around the straw
underneath the lid also.
5) If you do not have a lid for your bottle, just use bluetack to seal
the top of the bottle around the straw.
Conclusion: If you put your bottle in hot water or if it's a hot day, the molecules in the water expand so the only way to get out is up the straw. If it's a cold condition, the molecules will contract and the water goes down the straw.
