Experiment: To make a tornado in a bottle.

    Materials:

    You will need:

A 2 litre plastic bottle (clear and without the label).
    Insulation Tape

A washer (about the size of the mouth of the bottles)

    Food Colouring

    Glitter (to act as debris)

    Method:

    What you have to do:

    1) Fill one of the bottles to about two thirds of the way.

    2) Put about 2 - 3 drops of food colouring into your bottle. This should make your tornado a little easier to see.

    3) Drop a few pinches of glitter into the battle. This will look like some of the debris that the tornado has sucked up.

    4) Put your washer on top of the bottle. This will narrow the opening of the bottle and make the vortex narrower. It also makes your tornado last longer.

    5) Carefully place the empty bottle on top of the washer.

    6) Tape around the necks of both bottles, firmly securing them together so that there will be no water leaks! We used lots of insulation tape.

    6) Finally, turn your taped bottles upside down and swirl the top one and you have a tornado.

Result: A tornado forms in your bottle
