Our first ever competition was a 100 yarder for score. Elbows only from a bench, any calibre rifle. Des White from Ballybunion won using a semi-auto .22WMR topped with a 3.5-10X 40mm scope this competion will be held every October but may be shot from prone in future. Any calibre, 5 shots in 3 minutes for score. |

The second competition was an egg-shoot held in the neighbouring townland of Listowel. Adrian Casey won using a CZ .22 rifle. This competition will run every November. Entry is 5 euro (plus a half dozen eggs!). Winner takes home all the loot and any leftover eggs!! To win you must scramble 3 eggs with 3 shots, supported by elbows only. Any calibre rifle can be used. Tie-breakers to be shot from standing. Early summer is "Kill Barney Time". Past winners were Denis Dunleavy in Rimfire class and Padraig McMahon in Centrefire class. This competition entails shooting at a Barney target for score at either 50 or 100 meters, pending wind-strength on the day. Wait till you see the fabulous plaques for our 2005 winners! Two classes Rimfire and Centrefire. In May 04, Mike "Am I good Or What?!" McMahon won the first 300yard competition, 120 euro and a trophy. June 04 saw our biggest shoot to date, with support from Irish Shooters Digest journalist Cal Ward. Three competitions were held on the same day, with over 24 "bazooka-joes" in attendance. Local firearms dealer Jim Halpin's 16 year old son Kevin, beat all-comers to take 140 euro plus a trophy for the smallest 300 yard 3-shot-group on the day. Denis Dunleavy won the magnum rimfire class, using his H&R .17HMR punching a natty group at 100 yards. Adrian "The Sniper" Casey won the .22 rimfire class at 100 yards taking the trophy plus 50 euro. A great day was had by all despite tough shooting conditions. Guest shooter Tony O'Brien drew alot of attention with his FN .270WSM Mauser, a really loud cannon! It was the first Winchester Short Magnum any of us had seen in the Kingdom! A really flat accurate shooting round. ![]() ![]() On December 5th 2004 Kerry Target Sports Club hosted the first national handgun competition in the state in over 32 years. The cream of the crop were in attendance and the standard was surprisingly high. Albanian national women's champion Njellica Nelli showed us how to do it in style, punching beautiful groups, but it was Fabian Connolly (creator of the Uragh rifle) who swept the boards as far as prizes were concerned. It was an event to be recounted to our children and grandchildren in years to come, one of which we are understandably proud. For more pictures of this event, head on over to our picture gallery . Details of the 2005 shooting calendar are still undecided but keep checking the site for the 2005 fixtures. |
