ARMS, CRESTS & MONOGRAMS

FLORAL,

HORTICULTURAL ETC.

Nine of the crests shown here were in one album from which it is believed that at least one set of flower crests may have been published. The album which also had a set of birds and animals was almost certainly produced by Marcus Ward & Co of Belfast though it bears the imprint of a New York publisher. It may be that the sets were produced for the American market.
The Royal Gardens were so named as they were in royal ownership prior to 1840 when they were passed to the state. Now known as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, they comprise 132 hectares and have an international reputation.
The Royal Botanic Garden at Edinburgh, Scotland, was founded in the seventeenth century on an area the size of a tennis court. It now covers 31 hectares in Edinburgh and has satellite gardens at three other locations in Scotland.
