Nine of the crests shown here
were in one album from which it is
believed that at least one set of flower
crests may have been published. The album
which also had a set of birds and animals
was almost certainly produced by Marcus
Ward & Co of Belfast though it bears
the imprint of a New York publisher. It
may be that the sets were produced for
the American market. |
The Royal Gardens were
so named as they were in royal ownership
prior to 1840 when they were passed to
the state. Now known as the Royal Botanic
Gardens, Kew, they comprise 132 hectares
and have an international reputation. |
