CODE OF DISCIPLINE

The purpose of the school is to facilitate an environment in which the students can grow and mature spiritually and physically, intellectually and emotionally.

The following Rules of Conduct are necessary if this aim is to become a reality.

  1. Mutual respect, courtesy and honesty are required of everyone in our school. Obscene, disrespectful, aggressive or abusive language or behaviour will not be tolerated. Students must work and act in complete co-operation with the School Staff at all times.

  2. School uniform is to be worn every day during school hours and examination times. If a pupil does not have her uniform one will be supplied on loan from the Deputy Principal's office.

  3. Students are to remain on the school premises during school hours. Pupils who play truant are in breach of School Rules. Parents will be notified and appropriate sanctions will be imposed.

  4. Students are to go to their assigned classrooms punctually.

  5. Smoking is forbidden at all times in school uniform, or on any part of the school premises and grounds, as well as on school outings. A fine of £5 will be levied for breach of this rule on the school grounds. The money will be donated to charity.

  6. Substance abuse and the drinking of alcohol are forbidden at all times, including during school outings, to all pupils, regardless of age. Misconduct in these areas will be communicated immediately to parents and will warrant disciplinary action, including suspension.

  7. Books are available from the school library and students are encouraged to read these. Therefore all personal magazines, unrelated to school subjects, are prohibited on the premises and during school outings.

  8. A written note is required:
  9. Pupils are expected to show full respect for school personnel and for school property. A fine of £10 will be levied if students interfere with the Fire Alarm System. This money will be given to charity.

  10. Each student is responsible for her own personal property - books, money, clothing etc. - within the school. School management will not accept responsibility for students' belongings. Students are encouraged to use lockers for the safe keeping of personal property.

  11. Rules pertaining to specialist classrooms - e.g. Home Economics, Science, Technology, P.E. etc. - must be strictly obeyed.

  12. Class outings are part of the Pastoral Care Programme of the school or take the form of Field Trips in History, Geography, P.E. etc. In normal circumstances all pupils are required to participate. For this reason the cost is kept as low as possible and is communicated well in advance to parents.

  13. Vandalism, graffiti on books on loan, bullying, name calling, ridiculing or abusing any student or students will be taken as acts of serious misbehaviour.

  14. Mobile phones are prohibited in the school. If brought onto the premises they will be confiscated and may only be collected by a parent or guardian. If a message is to be delivered to a pupil, a parent or guardian may phone 025-32124.

Breaches of these rules or any repeated misconduct by any student will leave her open to appropriate disciplinary action, including suspension and even eventual total exclusion from the school.

FOOTNOTE:

Parents, please note that students playing hockey are strongly advised to wear gum shields. Students travelling to sports venues may occasionally be supervised on the bus by senior students. Teachers are always present at match venues.

The Board of Management advises that each student should arrange her own Personal Insurance.
