Depth of Burns

These burn cause damage to the outer layer of Skin
causing reddening.

  • Partial Thickness
    Partial Thickness
 

Affects the layers of the skin, causes rawness & blisters
Nerves are exposed

  • Full Thickness
    Full Thicknes
 

All layers of skin are burned
May be damage to nerves, fat tissue & muscle
Charring of the bone may occur.

Severity of a Burn

This is determined by a combination of

Young children and the over 55 are effected more then other age groups

Any burn effecting Breathing is a priority
  • Depth &
    Area

 

Treatment for Burns and Scalds

General

  • Safety First
  • Stop the Burning process
  • Monitor the A-B-C’s
  • Cool the affective Area for ten minutes (Timed)
  • Remove Clothing/Jewellery NOT stuck to the skin
  • Cover with a Dry sterile dressing
  • Keep Warm and Treat for Shock
  • Arrange for Medical Aid
