I think the "Reading Together" group is an excellent way to show younger children that reading is not a chore, it's a hobby. It lets the child make a new friend and share a special bond with this friend. This fifteen minutes of reading is not a lesson, it is a time for you to enjoy a story together. I think the child feels more relaxed with a sixth class girl than with a teacher. This helps the session a lot. This is a very good idea and I hope they keep doing it every year. Christina Duffy - Sixth Class |
I love to read. Books are fun. I like it when my teacher says it is time to go to Reading Together. Jade is my partner. She helps me. Anita Wixted - Second Class |
I can read. The big girls help me do my reading. We read big books. Kelly O'Toole - Second Class |
For the past few weeks girls from 6th class and 2nd class have been involved in a program called Reading Together. We read to each other and discuss the pictures and the book itself. It is a very enjoyable project and it gives us a chance to get to know each other. I really like reading with my partner and I hope my partner likes it also. Maeve Madigan - Sixth Class. |
I think that reading like this is essential for kids this age. It helps them to think that its fun and they will read more at home. Reading like this is fun and the partners become friends. After we read a book we talk about the pictures and the people in the book. This project is cool and who knows maybe I`ll read more too!! Jade Mc Cann - Sixth Class |
The Reading Together programme is really fun for both my partner and myself. The books are very enjoyable to read and the pictures are very well drawn. Reading is essential to people young and old and is very useful in many things. The experience of reading together makes you feel happy to know that you are helping out. And maybe you should try it too sometime!!! Jennifer Dowling - Sixth Class |

I like to read the big books. They are very funny. Leslie helps me. She reads one page and I read one page. Lorna Cogan - Second Class |
In my opinion reading together is much more fun than reading alone. Reading together gives you a chance to talk about the pictures, the characters, and the story line. Reading together gives the partners a better chance to understand the book more because there working together, they're working as a team. Laura Armstrong - Sixth Class |
I really enjoy the "Reading Together" and I think my partner does too. Sometimes she might not feel like reading but is a great listener. She always seems interested in the pictures because they are so colourful. I think her confidence is growing in the reading, and because they know we're not there to teach them they feel more comfortable and at ease with us. Faye McGinley - Sixth Class |
I like to read with the big girls from sixth class. The books are funny. Maeve helps me with the books. She reads two pages and then I read two pages. She helps me with words I don't know. Louise Connor - Second Class |

We are doing a project in school called Reading Together. It is a great programme and instead of the child just reading she also has a chance to have fun by reading and it helps the child to read more fluently. We like exciting books with colourful illustrations. It's a programme that I know is going to work out well. Lesley Keegan - Sixth Class |
