HOME SCHOOL LINKS

1. Family Details Form:

Because pupils attending our school arrive daily from different parts of the City and County of Kilkenny it is essential that the school has up to date information on each students. From time to time parents/guardians may be required to complete a family details form. Parents/Guardians must notify the school immediately of any change of address, phone number or family details.

2. Parents/Guardians Visiting School:

Parents are very welcome and are encouraged to call to the school to meet with staff of the school to discuss their child's progress or welfare. Parents/Guardians are asked to first phone the school to make an appointment as this makes the visit more successful.

3. Parent/Teacher Meetings:

Scheduled Parent/Teacher meetings are held twice yearly. The first meeting takes place in October and the second in June of each school year.

4. Student Report:

Class Teachers complete a report on their students in June of each year. This is sent out to parents over the Summer Holidays. Parents are given the opportunity to comment on this report and to return their comments to the Principal.

5. Circular Letters:

Circular Letters are sent out from time to time to inform and update Parents/Guardians.

6. Concern about Students Welfare:

As a school community we recognise that we have an influence on our students that goes far beyond the academic subjects being taught. Through our classwork, extra-curricular activities and the way we relate to the students, we are helping them to develop a positive image of themselves and others in their environment. Because our students have special needs above and beyond their special educational needs we recognise also that from time to time concerns may be expressed by staff, parents/guardians and/or other personnel about individual students' welfare. To address these concerns if and when they occur the following procedure is being put in place:

1. Ann Deering, Special Needs Assistant is in charge of Childcare. This post includes First Aid, Administration of Medicine, liaison with school Medical and Dental Services, co-operating with the visiting physiotherapist and occupational therapist and liasing with Parents/Guardians about students' welfare through the Principal.

2. Staff concerns about a pupil's welfare will be discussed first with Anne Deering, Special Needs Assistant and the Principal. The Principal will then decide on the course of action. Issues will be taken up with parents/guardians and the advice and/or support of Health Board Personnel or other services may be sought.

Note

From time to time parents/guardians or staff will make demands of the School with regard to students welfare above and beyond what it can provide. Many of these needs are beyond the expertise and resources of the school. The school authorities will refer these students and/or their parents/guardians to other services and other professionals.
