Mooncoin 2-7
Tullogher/Rosbercon 1-10

This game was a classic with both teams warming the hearts of the supporters in the cold climatic conditions in Piltown. These sides were very evenly matched and not even extra time could separate the sides with the replay likely to take place next weekend.

Mooncoin got off to the perfect start when Ray Wall gathered an early ball took on the Tullogher defence and passed to Michael Grace who finished to the net. Grace then added a point from the sideline before Liam Barron replied with a free for the Tullogher men. Both sides suffered injuries with Sean Wall and Paddy Grennan were forced to leave the field of play. These players went to hospital however both players are now fully on the mend. The play continued with Liam Barron and Keith Kirwin exchanging points before Edmund Cullinane registered a point when a goal was the most likely outcome. Liam Barron reduced the deficit to a minimum but Mooncoin upped the anti before the break with Michael grace adding another point before Tomas Kearns rattled the back of the Tullogher to ensure they had a healthy lead at the interval.
Mooncoin 2-3 Tullogher 0-4

Tullogher were quicker out of the blocks in the second half with an early Liam Barron free setting the ball rolling. However Ray Wall responded with a free but Barron added two more placed balls to close the gap. Thomas O’Hanlon responded with another free to leave it 2-5 to 0-7, as the intensity and tempo of the game quickened. Then the game turned as Pat Hartley burst through several tackles before landing a dangerous ball around the Mooncoin square. Edmund Cullinane reacted quicker than anybody else, grabbing the sliotar before hammering it to the net. The Listerlin men squandered several opportunities to level the scores but Liam Barron managed to take one of these opportunities to level the scores and send the game to extra time.
Mooncoin again started the quickest in extra time with scores from Ray Wall and Derek Phelan giving them the upper hand. Similarly to normal time the Suirsiders failed to close out the game, by failing to score during the rest of the playing time. Tullogher didn’t manage to score during the first period of extra time but added two points during the 2nd period thanks to Liam Barron and a massive free from Richard Dollard.

The strengths of both sides lay in their defences with a lack of creativity upfront, however this aspect wasn’t helped by the inclement weather conditions on the day. The defences were dominated by Noel Delahunty, Derek Phelan and Padraig Doody for Mooncoin, while Tullogher were represented by Declan Grennan, Rob Forristal and Arron McCarthy. The attacking options were limited but Ray Wall, Keith Kirwin and Michael Grace for Mooncoin would expect to have done better with the chances that came their way, while Tullogher will try to be less reliant on Liam Barron’s free taking for the replay.
