Intermediate Challenge

On Wednesday the Intermediate team played Ballyhale n a challenge match in Carigeen. Being short some inter-county players, Ballyhale were lacking in certain areas, but Mooncoin’s performance bodes well for the upcoming championship matches. At full back Eddie Mackey was sound, with Eoin Hennebry improving with every match at centre back. Ray Wall and Niall Mackey combined well together at centre field. The Kirwin brothers (Keith and Gerry, when introduced) both acquitted themselves well, scoring some nice points.
The downside was that team captain Diarmuid Mackey pulled a hamstring muscle and is out of action for about 5 weeks. This means he will miss the League/Championship game against Freshford in a couple of week’s time.
Team in full: D. O’Brien; Dick Mackey; Eddie Mackey;
T. Hennebry; D. Phelan; E. Hennebry; T O’Hanlon; R. Wall;
N. Mackey; E. Mackey; J. McGrath; K. Kirwin; P. Kinsella;
D. Mackey; M. Purcell.
Subs G. Kirwin; O. Dunphy; L. Hennebry.

Junior

The junior team took on Conahy Shamrocks in Suir Cresent on Thursday evening. However even with a numerical advantage, they were unable to overcome the Jenkinstown men due in no small part to their star player Gavin Nolan. This must not be considered a terrible result, as Conahy will go close to winning the Junior County Championship this season. The players who have played well in this competition to date put in a good effort on the night.
The team was:
B. Ryan; A. Walsh; Dick Mackey; L. Hennebry; D. Phelan;
A. Hennebry; O. Dunphy; D. Cody; T. Dunphy (0-1);
G. Kirwin; L. Walsh (0-7 2f); S. Wall (0-2); S. Phelan;
B. Purcell (0-1); R. Cody.
Subs: P. Kinsella; J. Phelan; D. Howley; J. Kearns.

Special Junior B

The Special Junior team played their second league match against Piltown on Friday night. With a mixture of minor players and some off the junior team hopes were high of a good result.
The team played well for long periods and had a two-point lead with about fifteen minutes to go. However the opposition upped the tempo of their game late on and managed to gain victory in the end.
This was disappointing for this group of players as they were also unlucky not to beat Kilmacow in their first match. Best on the night were Karl Phelan, Alan Walsh, Paddy Kinsella and Kevin Law
The team was:
M. Jones; T. Dunphy; K. Phelan; K. Dunphy; D. Howley;
T. Hennebry (0-1 65); N. Phelan; A. Walsh; L. Hennebry;
P. Kinsella (1-5 5f); C. Hearne; J. Kearns (0-1);
N. Delahunty (0-1) S. Walsh (1-0); K. Law (0-1)

Intermediate Challenge

On Saturday evening the intermediate team played another challenge game against Stradbally from Waterford. This game was an anti-climax as Mooncoin won out easily due to the unavailability of some of the opposition’s players.
