Successful weekend for Mooncoin 15/5/2006

It was a very successful weekend for Mooncoin as they had victories in both the intermediate and junior championships.

It was the juniors who had a surprised and very deserved victory over Tullogher Rosbercon on Saturday evening. They got off to a great start and never looked back. Tullogher would be considered favourites for the south Junior championship this year.

The intermediate team had their victory on Sunday afternoon against John Locks (Callan), in Piltown. This was the second round of the Joe Coogan auctioneers intermediate League. Mooncoin got two quick goals in the first 10 minutes and they cruised to victory from there on in. After a great run and shot by Keith Kirwan, D Mackey got the rebound for the first goal. Mickey Purcell scored the next after a fine handpass by D Mackey.

It was a great all round performance by the team considering they were missing Ray Wall due to exams and Noel Delahunty because of a shoulder injury. Ray was replaced by his brother Séan while Dick Phlean continued his role in the corner. All the team combined well as a unit and it was good to see the continuing improvement of Keith Kirwan and also a very impressive Jamie Mackey who has really come into form this last while. The latter also helped himself to a goal in the second half. In the backs there was a consistent performance from the old guns while Thomas 'Brook' Henebry has been a great presence in the the backline considering he just turned 18th.

All in all in was a good start to the League campaign for all involved
