11-a-side Football Tournament - 1st game Under lights (jan 2007) Mooncoin 5-6 This was the first official game to take place under the newly installed floodlights at Mooncoin’s grounds. It was the home team who reacted best to the conditions and were worthy of their comfortable victory. The game was delayed due to the unavailability of a referee and Maurice Flynn took the whistle. The early exchanges were competitive however Mooncoin worked the ball forward better than their opponents and were able to exploit the large spaces which are quite evident in this 11-a-side format. Barry Purcell helped himself to two early goals, one of which Gouch Cooper would be proud. Tomas O’Hanlon was also in good scoring form as he helped himself to another goal prior to the half way point. The halftime score was Mooncoin 3-5; Kilmacow 0-1. The second half was a bit more competitive
as the Kilmacow men began to find their scoring range. Sean Flynn and
Sean Power helped themselves to a pair of goals. However the home team
was always in control, with Tomas O’Hanlon and Billy Ryan finding
the net during the second period. The result was never in doubt but it
was a good competitive game from which both sides will improve. Mooncoin had good players throughout the
field with John Phelan and Eoin Hennebry best in defence while Dick Howley,
Tomas O’Hanlon and Barry Purcell most influential in attack. Kilmacow
never really got going but it was not for the want of effort from John
Barron, Declan Gahan, Richard Walsh and Sean Flynn. Scorers Teams Referee: M. Flynn (Mooncoin) |
