Annual General Meeting 2007 (Jan 06)

The Annual General Meeting of the Mooncoin G.A.A. Club was held in the club complex on Friday 7th January 07. The attendance was less than that of previous years with several members unavailable for a variety of reasons. The secretary’s report was exemplary as usual with Pat Kinsella thanking all who helped the club during 2006 and looking forward with confidence to 2007. The treasurer’s report was highly accurate with every figure accounted for by Jamie Dunphy. The club is currently in the middle of a major development and it is important to have a person who is able to account for all these activities. The club chairman Nicholas Hennebry thanked all who helped our club during the last 12 months however he felt that changes were required.

Tommy Delahunty said that he was disappointed the club was still in the Intermediate grade and felt that the Minor team should have won the county title. Tom O’Hanlon (Chairman Juvenile Club) paid tribute to the Senior Club and emphasised the fact that they were constantly looking for more help to coach and teach the young hurlers coming through. Ned Doyle (Development) stated that the club had an exciting future and that everybody would need to pitch in if the club wished to be successful in the future. The election of officers resulted in several changes at the top table with the Chairman and Secretary both stepping down. These gentlemen provided extensive and distinguished service to the club during their time as officers.

The election of management teams for the forthcoming season was next on the agenda. The previous management team led by Paddy Crowley were not seeking re-election. The executive committee had received a recommendation for the nomination of Johnny Walsh as manager with selectors Tom Murphy Ned Quinn and Paul Murphy as Physical Trainer. The members present at the meeting ratified this nomination. However certain members felt that this issue should not have been in the public domain for such a long period prior to the meeting

The Junior manager Joe Wall decided not to continue with this team. There were several candidates proposed before Tom O’Hanlon decided to take the post. It was stressed that this was a very important grade within the club as it was being used to help integrate the young players into adult hurling.
The Junior B management were re-elected and manager and new chairman Eddie Doyle was willing to take on the responsibility for the next twelve months.

The U-21 management was next on the agenda. Joe Dunphy stated that he had been in place for several years and felt he had no more to give. He thanked those who supported him during this time and expressed his disappointment at not having captured the recent U-21 championship, losing out to Freshford. James Grace allowed his name to go forward and the members duly ratified him. This election covered both hurling and football in this grade.
The outgoing Intermediate football manager Eugene Dunphy was re-elected for another term in office.

There was a feeling within the hall that a lot of money was being spent and that there would be a lot more required to ensure the development would continue. The club established a package deal, which allows members to pay their yearly debts. These would include Membership, local Silver Circle Draw, Piltown Draw tickets and GAA Lotto tickets. Members were satisfied that this scheme was in place but felt that there were more people who would be interested in this package if approached in the correct manner.

The club development is currently at half-time. The playing pitches are now complete and have been a major success. The next phase is the re-Development of the current complex area to incorporate a gym and sauna along with an enlarged indoor playing area. There would also be new dressing rooms and other required areas incorporated into this building. The development to date has been expensive and it had been decided that the next stage of the work would be at a reduced cost over a longer period of time. This was a practice of which the majority of members were in favour.

The past year has seen the death of several high prominent members of the club with both Canon Frank Grace and Dick Dunphy passing away with both men serving as officers of the club. The club extends it’s deepest and sincerest sympathies to all deceased members and former members during the past 12 months. We look forward to 2007 with great enthusiasm at the prospect of finally re-entering the senior grade.
