This game was transformed in the moments before half time when Mooncoin took control of the tie. Prior to this period Piltown had been in total dominance and this was reflected on the scoreboard as they led by 1-5 to 0-2.
The interplay of the Piltown team was superb with Andrew McCarthy, Paul Kirby, Philly Kenny and Richie McCarthy picking of scores at will while the half backline of John Brophy, Pa Connolly and Mark Culleton cleaning up the Mooncoin attacks.

However with time almost up at the end of the first period a well worked move through Sean Wall, Johnny Phelan and Eddie Mackey ended up with P.J. Rowe. The precision of Rowe’s pass enabled Eoin Hennebry to the take the ball in his stride before moving forward to bury the ball in the net. Within seconds Piltown were reeling once more when Thomas O’Hanlon placed a ball across the goalmouth where Keith Kirwin was ready to slam home another goal.
The great start made by Piltown was now in taters as Mooncoin had the bit between their teeth and after half-time they added to their tally through Diarmuid Mackey. Dick Howley and Thomas O’Hanlon added to Mooncoin’s tally before a late goal by Keith Kirwin settled the issue in Mooncoin’s favor.

This was very much a game of two halves with Mooncoin taking a far greater proportion of their chances than Piltown over the playing period. A county final now beckons for the victors and they will look forward to this occasion with some relish.
Mooncoin had many of the better performers on the evening with Sean Wall, Johnny Phelan and the forward moving Dick Howley causing all sorts of problems when raiding forward from defence.
